King’s View Acres Intern and Apprentice Program Information
Winter Programs
Winter Horse Management Internship (12+)
Objective:
As part of the Winter Horse Management Internship students will focus on growing independence and confidence, and horse handling skills.
Expectations:
Interns will work with assistant trainer, Izzy, to create a schedule.
As an intern, students are required to do one shift (two hours) a week of horse care, and be enrolled in the School Year lesson program.
Examples of intern chores are: caring for thrush, bemering horses, re-organizing the tack room, giving our wonderful horses extra attention and love, deep-cleaning tack, etc.
Requirements:
If students would like to be a part of the Winter Horse Management Internship they must have completed their intro year; and pre-vet 1, or be currently enrolled in pre-vet 1.
Benefits:
Interns are invited to all KVA Trips.
In the past we have attended Dressage at Devon, the Mason Dixon Classic, toured a breeding facility, and toured Marion DuPont (an equine hospital).
Winter Teaching Internship (12+)
Objective:
As part of the Winter Teaching Internship students will focus on broadening their understanding of dressage, and teaching while assisting in lessons.
Expectations:
Interns will work with assistant trainer, Izzy, to create a schedule.
As an intern, students are required to do one shift (two hours) a week of assistant teaching, and be enrolled in the School Year lesson program.
Examples of things interns would be expected to help with are: lunging horses, monitoring students during grooming and tacking, helping to set up the arena, helping instructor with demonstrations, etc.
Requirements:
If students would like to be a part of the Winter Teaching Internship they must have completed their first intermediate year, or Summer Apprenticeship.
Benefits:

Winter Apprenticeship (12+)
Objective:
As part of the Winter Apprenticeship students will get to focus on where they are truly passionate.
Apprenticeships are designed to allow students flexibility to focus on horse management, teaching, or a bit of both!
Expectations:
As an apprentice, students are required to work at least two (maximum four) shifts a week, and be enrolled in a School Year program.
Students will work with assistant trainer, Izzy, to create a schedule that includes teaching and/or horse management shifts.
Requirements:
If students would like to be a part of the Winter Apprenticeship they must have completed their first intermediate year, or a Summer Apprenticeship; and have completed pre vet 1, or be currently enrolled in pre-vet 1.
Benefits:
Apprentices are invited to all KVA Trips.

Apprentices are also invited to any “free ride days” (horse use permitting).
Working Student
Objective:
The Working Student program is for the serious student!
Working students work three shifts a week in exchange for one lesson.
If additional shifts are picked up they may be put towards future lessons (three shifts = one lesson).
Expectations:
Because working students are being paid (in trade for lessons), they are treated as staff.
Working students report directly to assistant trainer Izzy.
Working students handle all day-to-day care of the horses (stalls, feeding, turn out, blanketing, farrier appointments, vet appointments etc.)
Requirements:
The working student program is invitation only.
Benefits:
Students who complete the working student program can count this position on a resume, and will get any assistance they need for the future (letters of recommendation for college, work references, assistance with job placement, et.) from head trainer Ellen and/or Izzy.
Working students can combine this program with a winter apprenticeship or internship.
Summer Programs
Summer Internship (10+)
Objective:
As part of the Summer Internship students will get to learn about what it takes to run a horse farm, and all of the extras that come along with it!
Interns will grow their confidence and independence as they focus on horse and farm management skills.
Expectations:
As an intern, students are required to work one shift a week (two hours), work one intro camp as a counselor, and be enrolled in bi-weekly lessons or two camps throughout the summer. Interns will work with assistant trainer, Izzy, to build a schedule that works for them.
Examples of chores assigned to interns are: cobwebbing, organizing tack room, grooming horses, leveling stall mats, caring for the fields, etc.
Requirements:
If students would like to be a part of the Summer Internship they must have completed their intro year.
Benefits:
Students are allowed to ride on any day they are assigned to work and are invited to all KVA Trips.

Summer Apprenticeship (10+)
Objective:
As part of the Summer Apprenticeship students will get to learn about what it takes to run a horse farm, and care for horses day-to-day! Apprentices will grow their confidence and independence as they focus on horse handling and the responsibility that comes along with managing a horse farm.
Expectations:
As an apprentice students are required to work three shifts a week (six hours), work two intro camps as a counselor, and be enrolled in bi-weekly lessons or two camps throughout the summer. Apprentices will work with assistant trainer, Izzy, to build a schedule that works for them.
Examples of chores assigned to interns are: turnout, mucking, feeding, caring for minor injuries etc.
Requirements:
If students would like to be a part of the Summer Apprenticeship they must have completed their intro year and pre-vet 1.
Benefits:
Students are allowed to ride whenever they would like throughout the summer and are invited to all KVA Trips.
In the past we have attended Dressage at Devon, the Mason Dixon Classic, toured a breeding facility, and toured Marion DuPont (an equine hospital)
They will also receive a monthly semi-private from head trainer Ellen.
