Horse Care and Daily Management

All horses at King’s View Acres are cared for through a structured program.

Daily Care Includes:

  • Feeding (hay and grain per program standards)

  • Stall cleaning

  • Turnout management

  • Watering and basic health checks

Intern Role:
 Interns are actively involved in horse care as part of their training. All work is performed under staff guidance to ensure consistency and quality.  Boarders and shareholders needing help from interns should contact Ellen first. 

Supplements & Special Needs:

  • Owners may provide supplements (labeled and organized)

  • Additional care requests may incur added fees

Health & Veterinary Requirements

To maintain a healthy herd, all incoming horses must meet the following:

  • Current vaccinations (or health certificate)

    • Tetanus

    • Botulism

    • Rabies

  • Negative Coggins test

  • Routine deworming compliance

    • Staff will administer

    • Additional costs may be incurred

In Case of Illness or Injury:

  • Staff will assess and contact the owner, boarder and/or shareholder

  • Boarders and shareholders must communicate with the staff/owner if they are the first to recognize the injury or illness. 

  • In emergencies, veterinary care may be initiated if the owner cannot be reached

  • Injuries and special needs will determine stabling changes - especially the quarantine stall.  

  • Additional fees may be incurred for long-term stall rest. 

Quarantine:
 New or sick horses may be temporarily isolated when necessary. The quarantine stall and paddock will be used to limit exposure to other horses or limit grass for turnout.

Farrier & Routine Care

  • Horses must be on a regular farrier schedule

    • Barn will schedule and notify all owners and shareholders 

    • Mitch Michaud must be the farrier for all KVA owned horses 

    • Boarders may contract care with Mitch or another farrier of their choice.

  • Owners are responsible for farrier and veterinary expenses; shareholders split expenses according to their contract (already included in monthly expense for shareholders) 

  • Horses should be safe and manageable for handling by staff/interns

Holding horses for routine appointments is available as an add-on service.
